Gender Budgeting -reg

This is regardingf Opening up of Savings Bank Account for Girl Child in connection with " INTERNATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY proclaimed by the UN on  11.10.2014.  On this day it is decided to hold Special Drive to open Post Office savings account for girl child to commemorate the occasion.  This is being monitored by RO/CO and inturn at the Directorate also. All  offices should take special interest to mark the occasion and each office should contribute towards the day by opening the account.  Action may be started right now to identify schools/locations where we can enroll more number of  girl child for opening the account.  Even among the  walk-in customers  awareness can be created  and encourage  them to open an account towards their girl child.  At the end of the day, spread sheet will be made available to all offices, so as to know the contribution of each offices and the sub divisions made towards this occasion.  In this connection the Directorate's letter received  through RO is reproduced for ready reference, from this the importance can be seen for the event.  It is therefore once again reiterated the need to make the event successful and if any office proposes to have campaign in any school/location may be intimated to this office for any help/assistance.  Postmaster, Palakkad HO will inform the event to PRI(P) and ME so that they too can identify the location/schools and make their contribution in mobilizing the account under the subject.

Gender-responsive budgeting, commonly known as "Gender Budgeting has been internationally recognized as a key
tool for empowering women by incorporating gender perspective and concerns at all levels and stages of developmental planning , policy, programmes and delivery mechanisms. The Ministry of Women and Child Development as Nodal Agency for Gender Budgeting has under taken several initiatives and has adopted "Budgeting for Gender Equality" as a Mission Statement and is widely disseminating tools and strategies across Ministries and Departments.
In order to fulfill the above objectives of the Government of India, the DOP as a major stakeholder in delivery of services to the general public with enviable network across length and breadth of the country is joining hands with Ministry of Child Development for disseminating the message to the last mile.
As You are aware, the 11th October every year is being celebrated as International Girl Child Day as proclaimed by the UN.  On this day, it has been decided to hold a SPECIAL DRIVE to open Post Office Savings Bank Accounts for girl Child by visiting schools and rural village joints.  Posters depicting gender equalities may be printed and pasted in front of Post Offices to create awareness among general public.
I am directed to request you to plan and implement such a drive and associated activities in your circle, accordingly.  Appropriate officers at region and Division level may be assigned specific tasks for implementation of the above scheme in letter and spirit in the circle.  A report on the activities scheduled may be sent to the undersigned by 20.9.2014 for further submission to Secretary(Posts)
